The scenic byways go through villages and big cities. Everywhere we see churches, and on Sundays there are cars and trucks in the parking lots. (Even RV’s! and at church this morning, a motorcycle!)

The faithful gather in small quaint buildings, large cathedral structures, renovated warehouses, and homes. There are road signs that point to churches hidden from the roadway. Some have denominational names, some do not.
In this part of the deep south, there are many varieties of Baptists. And in the bayou area south of New Orleans there are scores of beautiful Catholic churches; many have schools attached.

As Jesus followers, we are less interested in the style of building, or the name out front. We pray to find a church to visit where we can be nurtured on this journey. And we have not been disappointed.

We visited “The Well”, and discovered a vibrant multiracial congregation of about 200; in the large parking lot, a gentleman offered us a ride in the golf cart to the church doors. Inside, we were met by two greeters at the door – ready to give out hugs and information. (We learned where to get a cup of coffee, and where the bathrooms were.) Two more greeters walked with us to the sanctuary. Friendliness was evident! After service the Pastor spoke with us and prayed for God’s leading and protection on our journey.

The Well – a vibrant church in Mississippi

At Thibodaux Family Center, the service was also vibrant and multiracial.  The Pastor spoke encouragingly about the outpouring of the Holy Spirit happening across the country, and as we are transformed, so our nation can be transformed!  At the close of the service people were invited to come to the front if they desired prayer for family members or loved ones. Lay ministry people prayed over each person, and others anointed each one with oil.  We didn’t count, but it seemed like the whole church came forward.

Wonderful experiences with the family of God – regardless of location!
