Gulf Coast Scenic Byway
• Long stretches with rocky shorelines
• Lots of sand dunes higher than the road we were traveling
• Endless water in the horizon
• Along the stretch with multimillion dollar homes, hotels, and condos – three most popular franchises: Waffle House, Whataburger, and Dollar General
Bayou Byways (Alabama and Louisiana)
- Longest bridges anywhere! over rivers, over bays, over swamps
- Except for Mobile, Alabama very little traffic
- Most unusual road kill – a very large fish, probably 3 feet long, or more! Some guy is going to have a lot of explaining to do when he gets home without his fish!
All roadways
- Most frequent “road kill” – shredded rubber tires
- A mixture of God’s handiwork and litter
- Hints of spring with shrubs blooming, and trees beginning to bud out.
You must be heading our way soon? Texas is a big State. Hope you will come by the Dallas area!
We will be heading west through Texas, but it is a big state, and we are not sure whether we will travel through Dallas. If we discover that it works to do so, we will be in contact.
Thanks for your encouragement!
I have never seen a road kill fish! Probably someone’s lunch, but SE asian walking catfish have been found in the southern US. Thanks for the update on your trip.
It was so unexpected there was no time to “document” it with a picture.
Made for interesting speculation about how it got there!
Sere hoping o come our way!
Hi Cliff, we are planning the next section of our journey, and Dallas is on the way. Hope we can connect. See an email from us for more details.
