Our family, Melissa and Charlie Rudacille, Reynold and Donna Yordy, and grandaughter Ella (age 13), joined us for our annual Christmas celebration – in January! (We are either late or early, depending on how you view it.)
They came for a week of sightseeing, exploring, relaxing, visiting as we traveled through Kenya. One of the joys in life is being able to share and experience together the beauties of God’s creation. The Africa trip allowed us to do just that and more! (And to use Bud’s Park Ranger pay to help!)
Day One included getting over jet lag, visiting the Elephant Orphanage —
which also has a rescued a baby rhino. We saw him a month ago and he has grown a lot, and is now quite feisty! Ella got a great picture of him on the run!
We also went to the Giraffe Park (sanctuary) where our granddaughter took a selfie feeding the giraffe. (There is a tall platform built to make it easy to do.) Charlie got a sloppy kiss when he put the food pellet between his lips for the giraffe to get it. Sorry no pictures of that event!
Along the highway we saw troop of baboons frolicking – and looking for handouts!
The next day we traveled by train – newly built by the Chinese – from Nairobi to Mombasa. The travels took us through Tsavo National Park and we saw lots of different wildlife – elephants, giraffe, zebras, gazelle and more. No great photo shots because of the distance and speed. In Mombasa we hit rush hour traffic at the ferry crossing. Two ferries were running – one just for people!
And then we arrived at our first destination – Sand Island Beach Bungalows.
Stay tuned for more details!
